Hey there! My name is Mimi. Welcome to my virtual soapbox.
I like to shop, code, and discover new things about how the world works (order not important). I dislike forced social situations, traditional gender roles, and insincere compliments. If it’s a nice day out, you can probably find me taking photos by a colorful wall or at the beach.
I have a thing for anything pastel (bonus if it’s pink and/or frilly), and am so not the personality type to typically like looking so femme, but I take pride in being able to out-ironic-dress your most hipster friend. I prefer wedges to heels and heels to flats; to this day, I’m still able to walk perfectly in stilettos while tripping over my feet in flip flops. I like dresses of all kinds, but my favorites are the show-stopping, brightly colored ones:
Although I have a very high-end aesthetic, I shop on a budget and refuse to spend over $25 on a single item unless it’s something truly special. For the best online bargains, I visit Vinted, Poshmark, Ebay, and Mercari, and am always trolling my favorite stores’ sale sections. I’m also a frequent patron of Goodwill, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, and Plato’s Closet. You never know what you may find when you walk in. 😉
I’m a computer scientist and economist by study, and a programmer by interest. I really love short, self-contained projects that can be completed in a weekend, so I attend as many hackathons as possible. Right now I’m really into developing iOS apps that focus on exceptional user experiences and beautiful interfaces.
When I’m not programming or blogging, I’m either lifting weights, cracking up over some form of satire, debating with someone, or destroying others’ notions about what it means to act like a lady.
In addition to running this blog and being a full-time student, I serve as a Justice on my student government’s court, a TA for a macroeconomics class, and the Vice President Education of my campus Toastmasters club. I post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday–please come around often.
I’d love to know more about you, too, so don’t hesitate to drop me a line!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy your visit.
