Happy Tuesday! My apologies for the lack of posts lately; it’s been a super busy (and rainy) week, so I didn’t have much time to get pictures taken. That being said, I decided to treat myself this past weekend and took myself on a date! I’ve always admired people who go to the movies and to fancy restaurants by themselves, but since this was only the first date, I decided to be unorthodox and go to a museum instead.
Once Henry Flagler’s winter retreat, Whitehall in West Palm Beach is now an award-winning museum and literal dream house. It’s got a gorgeous facade, rooms decorated to look like they were from different time periods, central heating and electricity that was actually there when the Flaglers were in residence, a breathtaking view of the water, and enough art to make your head spin. I want it to be the backdrop for a Lana del Rey music video — that old-fashioned, tropical aesthetic that she has would fit perfectly with this location. Despite its huge size and grand installments, it only took a year to build due to the entire structure being made of concrete and then painted over to look like marble, wood, etc. Because of that, the house has been able to withstand multiple hurricanes and tropical storms, with the worst damage being displaced roof tiles. I like the idea of something being beautiful and fragile-looking on the outside, yet tough and unbreakable on the inside.
I wore a pink-and-white floral dress and prepped it up with a set of pearl earrings and a gold monogram necklace. If you’re looking to add instant Southern charm to an outfit, I strongly suggest investing in these two accessories. They may be costly at first, but wear them enough — they seriously go with everything — and you’ll be getting your money’s worth.
I thoroughly enjoyed my self-date at Whitehall. This will be the start of many more 😉 Have you ever treated yourself to an experience alone? Where did you go, and did you enjoy yourself?
H&M dress (currently not available online)
I often get asked where I get my dresses from, and feel bad that you guys often can’t shop my exact look because I get a majority of my clothes used, either from brick-and-mortar stores like Plato’s Closet and Marshalls or sites such as Ebay and Poshmark. Weekly shopping sprees are something I’m going to do from now on provide you with pretty, affordable dress options that are currently available from my favorite brands. It also allows me to satisfy my shopping addiction without necessarily buying anything, so it’s a win-win 😉
I browsed through Tobi’s dress selection yesterday and was blown away by how pretty and inexpensive some of these frocks were. These are all under $30, and they’re currently having a 50% off all dresses sale (use code AD50 at checkout), so hurry over there and grab some of these before they sell out!
Below are my eight personal favorites:
Sweet Ending Dress in Blush
If Venus on the Half-Shell were a dress, this would be it.
Wine and Dine Me Skater Dress in Mint
This dress almost makes me want to draw attention my boobs. Almost.
Doubled Deedee Dress in White & Orchid
White and purple is one of my favorite color combinations. It reminds me of the purple ice cream cones I ate during my visits to China as a kid — this dress is just as delectable.
Roaring Beauty Leopard Skater Dress in Mocha Multi
I have a secret, repressed obsession for animal print dresses and this dress makes me want to give in to those urges.
Alexandria Skater Dress in Cobalt
If I were an investment banker, I’d throw a Wolf of Wall Street-esque party in this dress.
Savanah Skater Dress in Ivory Floral
I want to travel back in time in this dress and make my little-kid self think that I’m a reincarnation of Glinda the Good Witch.
Wild Hearts Dress in Light Blue
The perfect backless dress for your beat-up sneaks.
Sweet Ending Dress in Cream
Those frills! Those straps! Insert heart-eyes emoji here. And yes, this is the same dress as the first one, but in a different color.
It’s worth noting, by the way, that I only looked in the section of the site labeled “skater dresses”. For all you out there who love your bodycons, maxis, and other types of dresses that I don’t really wear, keep in mind that the dress sale extends to all types of dresses. I hope you liked my as much as I do. Happy shopping!
